“Ordinary people know UNICEF by simple interventions that touch their lives. Simple solutions that matter to children and their families,” said Yumi Bae, Chief, UNICEF Odisha at the 70th anniversary celebrations in Bhubaneswar on December 12, 2016.  ORS, immunization, breastfeeding were simple solutions promoted by UNICEF in the 1980's that continue to be the cornerstone of public health interventions even today. “The foundation of UNICEF is strong because we have mud on our feet. It is this field experience that helps UNICEF be a reliable and authentic partner to governments and donors and makes it relevant,” she said. “While the foundation is strong, the challenges today are just as deep,” she said, calling government, partners, media and youth to work together for the rights of children.

“We have a lot to learn from UNICEF that has seen many decades of transformational change within its organization and around it,” said Mr. Subroto Bagchi, the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker on the idea of Transformational Change.

“Transformational change, needs a larger than life adversary that brings ordinary people from all walks of life together for a shared vision. There are huge challenges today that need this change, such as, addressing stunting in children to skilling lakhs of youth; from eliminating polio and AIDS to ending female foeticide. The path of any transformational change is essentially about individuals feeling the pain, developing a shared vision, having a concrete roadmap and an action plan. It needs visionary leadership backed with solid content that drive the ideas forward.”
